Our Attorney Santiago Martínez's Visit to CARCE Beijing 2025

Beijing, October 2025. Our managing partner and lead attorney, Santiago Martínez, represented Martínez Díaz & Asociados at the 2025 Global Medical & Health Expo & 3rd China International Reproductive Medicine & Health Conference (CARCE Beijing 2025), held October 18-19, 2025 (2025年10月18-19日) at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing.
About CARCE 2025
Organized by the Guangdong Health Care Association and supported by international medical associations, the event brought together more than 100 hospitals, clinics, and fertility centers from 30 countries, with the purpose of promoting global medical cooperation in assisted reproduction, regenerative medicine, and reproductive health.
CARCE Beijing 2025 established itself as a meeting point for biomedical innovation, healthcare regulation, and international medical tourism. Its thematic forums included:
- Regenerative medicine and longevity, with advances in stem cell therapies
- Functional and personalized medicine, focused on prevention and genomic nutrition
- Advanced oncology and immunotherapy
- International Forum on Reproductive Health and Genetics, with a focus on the legal aspects of fertility

Martínez Díaz's Participation
In this context, Santiago Martínez held meetings with experts and executives from international surrogacy agencies and fertility clinics, analyzing comparative regulatory frameworks that ensure legal protection for intended parents.
During the congress, Santiago Martínez met with:
- Executives from fertility clinics in the United States, Europe, and Asia
- Representatives of international surrogacy agencies interested in legal and ethical programs
- Experts in private international law and recognition of parentage
Legal topics analyzed during the congress:
- Validity of international surrogacy contracts: competent jurisdictions, applicable legislation, and protection clauses
- Recognition of international parentage and nationality of children born through surrogacy
- Migration and civil registry, citizenship, and dual nationality
- Protection of genetic data and medical confidentiality
- Medical insurance and cross-border civil liability
These alliances drive the creation of the Comparative Legislation Observatory on Gestational Surrogacy, a project the firm plans to launch in 2026 to analyze trends and legal frameworks in Latin America, Asia, and Europe.
With this participation, Martínez Díaz & Asociados reaffirms its leadership in legal advisory services for international gestational surrogacy, offering preventive, contractual, and post-birth support to families worldwide.
Colombia as a Surrogacy Destination
During these meetings, it was highlighted that Chinese citizen intended parents have full legal guarantees to carry out gestational surrogacy processes in Colombia, under the legal advisory of Martínez Díaz & Asociados.
In mainland China, surrogacy has been prohibited since 2001, although the country is a reference in assisted reproduction research and IVF. Therefore, events like CARCE Beijing 2025 are essential to strengthen ties between medical experts and lawyers specialized in international reproductive law.
Colombia has established itself as an attractive destination for intended parents from around the world, thanks to its favorable legal framework, quality medical services, and competitive costs.
Family Follow-up and Post-birth Advisory
During his stay in Beijing, Santiago Martínez also visited families residing in China who in previous years were intended parents in gestational surrogacy programs in Colombia.

Topics addressed included:
- Civil registry and citizenship
- International custody and residence
- Legal recognition of parentage in hybrid processes with other countries
"The legal security of a family through gestational surrogacy does not end with the birth of the child, but with the full recognition of their parentage and rights in all countries involved."
— Santiago Martínez, Managing Partner of Martínez Díaz & Asociados
